Paukbox

Free up to 50 cards

Paukbox. Flashcards that stick.

Flashcards have worked for generations, which is exactly why we do not reinvent them. You write down vocabulary and terminology or import it from a PDF, practise a few minutes every day and keep what you learn. Everything runs in the browser on your phone, tablet and desktop.

Starting costs nothing. Unlimited cards are a one-time €2.

No reinvented wheel, just done well

PDF in, cards out

Upload a list as a PDF. Paukbox detects lines shaped like “word = meaning”, strips headers and shows you everything for review before anything is saved.

Fill it with your AI

Have ChatGPT or another AI write a list in the “word = meaning” format and paste it right in, or hand it over as a PDF. The import takes care of the rest.

Duplicates stand out

If a term appears twice in the list or already exists in your cards, the app asks which version should stay. Identical lines are merged quietly.

Repetition with a system

In the Leitner boxes, cards you know come up less often and cards that wobble come up more. The gaps grow from one day to three, seven and twenty-one. If you prefer free practice, switch to pure shuffle.

Quiz rounds in between

Every few cards, the app mixes in a matching quiz. You pair terms with meanings, check your answers and move on. That bit of variety makes things stick.

Nothing gets lost

Your cards live in your account and not just in the browser. On a new device everything is right back, and a JSON export is included anyway.

Why it works

Without repetition, new knowledge fades fast. A day later, more than half is often gone. The memory researcher Hermann Ebbinghaus described this forgetting curve back in 1885.

Flashcards place repetition exactly where it counts, which is shortly before you forget. Every review lifts the curve back up and flattens it. That is what the rhythm of 1, 3, 7 and 21 days is for.

Because you only reveal the answer after recalling it from memory, you also practise what exams actually test: remembering rather than recognising. Re-reading merely feels better.

The chart is schematic. Every yellow dot is a review that lifts the curve before forgetting takes over.

Common questions

What does Paukbox cost?

The first 50 cards are free, and you need no payment details to start. If you want more room, you pay a one-time €2 for unlimited cards. There is no subscription and nothing to cancel.

How do my lists get into the app?

There are three ways. You upload a PDF with lines shaped like “word = meaning”, paste a list as text, or type cards by hand. Lists written for you by ChatGPT or another AI go in the same way in seconds. You always see a preview before anything is saved.

What is the Leitner system?

Every card sits in one of five boxes. Cards you know move up a box and appear less often, first after one day, then after three, seven and twenty-one days. Cards you miss fall back and appear more often. You automatically practise what wobbles instead of what already sticks.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Paukbox runs in the browser and adapts to phone, tablet and desktop. Your cards live in your account, so you can import at your desk and study on the go.

Do I own my data?

Yes. PDF files are read in your browser and never uploaded. You can export all cards as JSON at any time, and you can delete your account yourself in the settings, permanently and with all data.
